What makes a business rank on Google Maps?

Google says local results are based on three things:

  • Relevance: how well your profile matches the search — categories, services and your website matter.
  • Distance: how close you are to the searcher or the location they mention.
  • Prominence: how well-known your business is — reviews, mentions on other sites and the strength of your website.

You can't change distance, but relevance and prominence can be improved — that's exactly what we work on.

How to add your business to Google Maps

  1. Go to business.google.com, sign in and enter your real business name.
  2. Choose the primary category that best describes what you do.
  3. Add your address — or, if you serve customers at their location, set service areas and hide your address.
  4. Add your phone number and website.
  5. Verify your business; Google usually asks for a short video or a code.
  6. Complete everything: hours, services, photos and description.
Important: don't stuff keywords or city names into your business name on Google. It violates Google's guidelines and can get your profile suspended.
No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google — and Google itself warns against anyone who does. What we do is work every ranking factor consistently and show you the progress.

// FAQ

Your questions, answered

How long does local SEO take?

Profile changes show up within days. Moving up in competitive searches usually takes several months of consistent work.

I'm in Lancaster — can I rank in Reading?

Distance matters a lot on Google Maps. If you serve customers on-site, you can add Reading as a service area and publish Reading-specific content on your website. Google Ads can help you reach Reading faster.

Can I buy reviews or only ask happy customers?

No. Google prohibits fake or paid reviews, and the FTC bans fake reviews in the U.S. The right approach — and ours — is to consistently ask real customers for reviews.

Do I need a website to rank on Google Maps?

It's not required, but it helps a lot: Google uses your website to understand your business, and customers check it before calling.

Will I still own my Google Business Profile?

Yes. The profile belongs to your business; we work on it as a manager, with your permission.
